Matthew McConaughey To Star In “The Rivals Of Amziah King”

According to Variety, Matthew McConaughey will star in the crime thriller “The Rivals of Amziah King. The film will be written and directed by Andrew Patterson. This will be Patterson’s follow-up film to his acclaimed directorial feature debut, “The Vast of Night.”

Little is known about the film’s plot other than it will occur in the Midwest. The press release for the film is described it as a “deeply atmospheric, character-focused crime thriller set against the unique backdrop of remote Oklahoma.” The feature will be produced by David Heyman, who produced the “Harry Potter” franchise.

After the sleeper hit “The Vast of Night,” we have all waited to see how Patterson will follow up his mesmerizing and stylistic debut. Based on what “The Rivals of Amziah King” sounds like, it makes sense for someone like McConaughey to be attached. It feels reminiscent of something like the first season of “True Detective.” McConaughey’s post-Oscar win career feels a bit disappointing compared to the career renaissance he received in the early 2010s. Maybe this is the chance for him to scale it back and work on something smaller and more refined. Unless this film is a chance for Patterson to show audiences he can take his talent to a larger scale. We will just have to wait and see.
