After previously thinking it would be held for next year, it’s now been confirmed by Variety that Academy Award-winning legendary director Clint Eastwood’s latest film, “Juror No. 2,” will have its world premiere at this year’s AFI Film Fest as the Closing Night film on October 27th, and then release theatrically on November 1st.
“There is only one Clint Eastwood – and AFI is proud to present the world premiere of this next chapter in his historic canon,” said Bob Gazzale, AFI president and CEO, in a statement. “We are honored to bring the community together once again—artists and audiences—to celebrate an American icon.”
Written by Jonathan Abrams, ”Juror No. 2” follows Justin Kemp (Nicholas Hoult), a juror serving in a high-profile murder trial who faces with an intense moral crisis — one he could use to sway the jury’s verdict and potentially convict or free the accused killer. “Juror No. 2” also stars Oscar-nominee Toni Collette (“The Sixth Sense”), Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons (“Whiplash”), Zoey Deutch, Chris Messina, Gabriel Basso, Leslie Bibb & Kiefer Sutherland.
The premiere of “Juror No. 2” continues a long relationship between Eastwood and AFI. Eastwood launched the World Premieres of ”American Sniper”, ”J. Edgar,” and “Richard Jewell” at AFI Fest. In 1996, Eastwood received the 24th AFI Life Achievement Award – the highest honor for a career in film, and in 2009, AFI conferred an Honorary Degree upon Eastwood for contributions of distinction to the art of the moving image.
