WGA Awards Rule “Poor Things” & “The Zone Of Interest” Ineligible For End Of Year Awards

On the eve of Oscar nomination morning, The WGA has revealed the films that will be ineligible for their nominations. Although typically an essential precursor for the Oscars, the show will take place after the Academy Awards this year due to the SAG and WGA strikes. Every year, there are always surprising omissions due to ineligibility. Here are the films this year that will not be contending at the WGA awards.

Anatomy Of A Fall
A Thousand and One
Fallen Leaves
Fingernails
Memory
The Boy and The Heron
The Teachers’ Lounge

Adapted Ineligible
All of Us Strangers
BlackBerry
Poor Things
Society of the Snow
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem
The Taste of Things
The Zone of Interest

Barbie” and “Origin” have also been placed under Best Original Screenplay for the WGA. Both of these films are running in the Best Adapted Screenplay category at the Academy Awards. The WGA nominations will be released on February 21st, 2024, before final voting at the Oscars. WGA awards were pushed back to April 14th, 2024. What are your thoughts?
