Trailer – “Sense And Sensibility”

Focus Features has released the official trailer for Georgia Oakley’s “Sense And Sensibility” starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Esmé Creed-Miles, Caitríona Balfe, Frank Dillane, George MacKay, and Fiona Shaw. The film will be released in theaters on October 16th.

Plot Synopsis: From Focus Features and Working Title comes an irresistible new take on Jane Austen’s iconic “Sense and Sensibility”: a charming, witty, and deeply relatable story of love and sisterhood starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles.

What do you all think of the trailer? I must say, I’m pretty impressed by what I’m seeing here from Georgia Oakley on a visual and directorial level, but maybe that shouldn’t surprise me, considering “Blue Jean” was such a phenomenal film. The cast all look really fantastic. It’s really great to see Frank Dillane in another starring role following his excellent work in “Urchin.” George Mackay is always very reliable, this looks like it could be a breakout role for Esmé Creed-Miles, and Daisy Edgar-Jones, given the right material, can also be sublime. With all that said, I am very nervous that this is standing in the shadow of Ang Lee’s 1995 masterpiece, which won Emma Thompson an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. That adaptation of “Sense and Sensibility” is so beloved and considered to be one of Ang Lee’s best films, so it will be a tall order for this new version to live up to or even eclipse that. I hope that Georgia Oakley can get there. I do have some confidence, given that the source material by Jane Austen is so strong, and what I’m seeing here does look exquisite. I’m expecting this to premiere at Telluride, but perhaps Focus might choose to hold it until TIFF. It depends. And such a decision might also be a slight indicator of the film’s overall quality. We’ll see. But what do you think, though? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below or on our X account.
