Netflix has released the official trailer for Greta Gerwig’s “Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew,” starring David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell, Emma Mackey, Daniel Craig, Carey Mulligan, Ciarán Hinds, and Meryl Streep. The film will be released in IMAX theaters on February 10th, 2027 and then available to stream on Netflix on April 2nd, 2027.
Plot Synopsis: Academy Award–nominated filmmaker Greta Gerwig brings C. S. Lewis’ beloved story “The Magician’s Nephew” to the screen for the first time in a sweeping adventure that invites dreamers of all ages to experience the creation of Narnia.
What do you all think of the trailer? This is quite the leap from the feel of the very-traditional “Narnia” films that Disney produced in the 2000s. For one thing, it features 100% more Led Zeppelin than anyone probably expected; although, considering that band’s connection to “The Lord of the Rings” – the similarly fantastical work of the famously close friend of “Narnia” author C.S. Lewis – perhaps the song choice and Emma Mackey’s glam rock-inspired look shouldn’t be too surprising. Overall, this is a colorful, exciting trailer for a movie that looks like it will have as much wide appeal as Greta Gerwig’s colossally successful “Barbie.” Given that the famously theatrically-averse Netflix gave in to her demands and are giving the film an exclusive IMAX release nearly two months before its streaming debut, clearly Gerwig was given free reign. And given her incomparable past success – including a perfect score of three Best Picture nominations for all three of her solo directorial efforts – she’s absolutely earned it.
