Apple TV+ has released the official trailer for Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of The Flower Moon” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, Brendan Fraser, and John Lithgow. The film will be released in select theaters on October 6th.
Plot Synopsis: At the turn of the 20th century, oil brought a fortune to the Osage Nation, who became some of the richest people in the world overnight. The wealth of these Native Americans immediately attracted white interlopers, who manipulated, extorted and stole as much Osage money as they could before resorting to murder. As FBI agent Tom White (Jesse Plemons) is sent by the FBI to investigate these murders, married couple Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Mollie Kyle (Lily Gladstone) struggle to to keep their love alive among betrayal, greed, and the murders of those closest to her.Â
One of the most highly anticipated films of the year, “Killers of the Flower Moon” didn’t need a grabby teaser to get us into the theater, but wow is this one killer teaser! The stabs of instrumentation drive home the thriller aspects, while the crafts on display show the attention to detail you’d expect from a film with Scorsese in the director’s chair (practically every frame of Rodrigo Prieto’s cinematography looks great). Leonardo DiCaprio is adding another accent to his repertoire, as his trailer narration gives a brief history of the Osage from a book, complete with the pointed question “can you spot the wolves in this picture?” It’s not a surprise when that quote comes back at the end over a picture of old white men in suits, but it’s the kind of grand gesture that hits home in this kind of setting. There’s not much of the performances on display – this definitely seems to confirm the reports that the film’s focus is more on DiCaprio’s character than Plemons’s – but this is only a teaser. The glimpses we get of Robert De Niro made me do a double take the first time as I didn’t recognize him at first. Hopefully Lily Gladstone will get some dialogue so we don’t have to relive the debate about Anna Paquin in “The Irishman”, but otherwise? This looks incredible. It does exactly what a teaser should do: Sell us on the vibe of the film, not all the specifics. Are you feeling the vibe? What do you all think?
