Focus Features has released the trailer for Ethan Coen’s “Honey Don’t,” starring Margaret Qualley, Aubrey Plaza, Charlie Day, Billy Eichner & Chris Evans. The film will have its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival Out of Competition and be released in theaters on August 22nd.
Plot Synopsis: HONEY DON’T! is a dark comedy about Honey O’Donahue, a small-town private investigator, who delves into a series of strange deaths tied to a mysterious church.
What do you all think of the trailer? The tone feels not that far off from that of Ethan Coen’s last collaboration with Tricia Cooke and Margaret Qualley, last year’s manic lesbian caper “Drive-Away Dolls,” which proved quite divisive. Coen & Cooke certainly have the jokes, and we know the cast is up to the task, but not all of the laugh lines in this trailer have that classic Coen snap to them. Seeing Chris Evans as his version of Chris Hemsworth’s “Bad Times at the El Royale” cult leader provides the most laughs here, with the actor finally leaning more into that Ransom Drysdale loveable prick energy. Overall, this looks like a goofy, bloody hoot that will fit in very nicely as a Midnight Screening at Cannes. Do you think this will be a bigger hit than “Drive-Away Dolls” or do you think it’s time for the Coen Brothers to start working together again?
