Sony Pictures has released the trailer for Robert Zemeckis’ “Here” starring Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Paul Bettany, Kelly Reilly & Michelle Dockery. The film will be released in theaters on November 15th.
Plot Synopsis: The story covers the events of a single spot of land and its inhabitants spanning from the past to well into the future.
What do you all think of the trailer? After hearing about this project for months, we finally got a glimpse of what Zemeckis’ vision looks like, and I suspect it will divide some. Today’s cinematic climate may not take the time to watch Tom Hanks and Robin Wright in a single location (with a fixed camera) for a little over a hundred minutes (and especially with this sappy and sentimental of a tone). In contrast, others may be intrigued by the concept and the reunion of the “Forrest Gump“ trio of Zemeckis, Hanks, and Wright. I certainly wasn’t expecting dinosaurs and other times throughout history to be displayed, making this feel almost in ways like Zemeckis’ own form of “The Tree Of Life“ at this later stage in his career. I’ve already heard people complaining about how the de-aging visual effects look rough in motion but I’m refraining on providing full judgment until I can see the finished film. A New York Film Festival world premiere seems inevitable if Sony has confidence in it being an Oscar player, much like how Zemeckis’ previous films “Flight” and “The Walk” premiered there.
