Warner Bros. Pictures has released the official trailer for Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s “Digger” starring Tom Cruise, Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Jesse Plemons. The film will be released in theaters on October 2nd.
Plot Synopsis: The most powerful man in the world races to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he unleashed destroys everything.
What do you all think of the trailer? I genuinely believe there is a world where this could be Tom Cruise’s Oscar. He’s certainly been building up to it his entire career, although the last nearly thirty years, he’s been stuck playing Tom Cruise, the movie star, rather than taking on a role where he’s truly transformative. And this looks to be exactly that, as he is completely disappearing into this role through the makeup, the accent, and the character’s eccentricities. I’m a fan of Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu’s previous work. Although this may be divisive, the enthusiasm for Cruise, the makeup, and Emmanuel Lubezski returning behind the camera will likely propel this into the Oscar conversation one way or another. Cruise is also supporting by a tremendous cast of actors here with John Goodman and Riz Ahmed receiving standout moments in the trailer. The question now remains, will it premiere at one of the fall film festivals, or will it skip altogether and go straight to theatrical? Based on Tom Cruise’s pattern of behavior regarding the theatrical experience, it will likely skip, but Warner Bros. may want to give this a high-profile premiere, possibly at Venice, before going wide on October 2nd.
But what do you think, though? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below or on our X account.
