Paramount Pictures has released the official trailer for Gina Prince-Byhtwood’s “Children Of Blood And Bone” starring Thuso Mbedu, Damson Idris, Amandla Stenberg, Tosin Cole, Cynthia Erivo, Lashana Lynch, Zackary Momoh, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Regina King, Idris Elba, Viola Davis, Saniyya Sidney, Diaana Babnicova, Bukky Bakray, Ayra Starr, Shamz Garuba, Kola Bodunde, Pamilerin Afolake Ayodeji, and Tèmítópé Fágbénlé. The film will be released in theaters on January 15th.
Plot Synopsis: In the epic fantasy world of Orïsha, a young woman sets out on a quest to reclaim the magic violently stolen from her people. She and her brother ally with the king’s daughter and son to fight back against his brutal rule. What do you all think of the trailer?
I really like that this evokes the same qualities Gina Prince-Bythewood exhibited in “The Woman King,” one of my favorite films of hers. The cast here is absolutely stacked. And I love that it also has a sense of scale that we haven’t seen many other women of color filmmakers afforded in this industry. I’m not so sure if the story is being communicated as clearly as it can be through this trailer. But it certainly is high on action and spectacle, which may draw an audience in a month when competition is lighter at the box office. “The Woman King” was helped by its Toronto International Film Festival world premiere and an awards campaign for Viola Davis. We’ll have to wait and see if this film can garner any such buzz. If nothing else, hopefully it can be a standout in a month where expectations are low. But hey, we just went through a year when “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” was released in January to high acclaim, so anything is possible. But what do you think?
