MGM has released the official trailer for Luca Guadagnino’s “Challengers” starring Zendaya, Mike Faist & Josh O’Connor. The film will be released in theaters on September 15th.
Plot Synopsis: From visionary filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, “Challengers” stars Zendaya as Tashi Duncan, a former tennis prodigy turned coach and a force of nature who makes no apologies for her game on and off the court. Married to a champion on a losing streak (Mike Faist), Tashi’s strategy for her husband’s redemption takes a surprising turn when he must face off against the washed-up Patrick (Josh O’Connor) – his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend. As their pasts and presents collide, and tensions run high, Tashi must ask herself, what will it cost to win.
What do you all think of the trailer? I can confidently say this will be the hottest film of 2023. I did not know before watching this trailer what kind of a tone Luca Guadagnino would bring to it (his last two films have been steeped in horror but with a certain sexy allure to them as well), but I should’ve expected it would be something steamy as hell, and that’s what we’ve got here. Threesomes, six-pack abs, Zendaya taking control over two smitten little white boys! This is a fanatically cut and presented trailer that has totally taken me by surprise and made me more excited than ever to see how this sports love story resolves itself. Will it get super dark? I suspect so but the level of intrigue I now have for this is sky high. A world premiere at the Venice Film Festival is expected, as Luca Guadagnino is a favorite over there, but what do you all think?
