20th Century Studios has released the trailer for Matt Ruskin’s “Boston Strangler” starring Keira Knightley, Carrie Coon, Alessandro Nivola, David Dastmalchian & Chris Cooper. The film will premiere exclusively on Hulu on March 17th, 2023.
Plot Synopsis: The film follows Loretta McLaughlin (Keira Knightley), a reporter for the Record-American newspaper, who becomes the first journalist to connect the Boston Strangler murders. As the mysterious killer claims more and more victims, Loretta attempts to continue her investigation alongside colleague and confidante Jean Cole (Carrie Coon), yet the duo finds themselves stymied by the rampant sexism of the era. Nevertheless, McLaughlin and Cole bravely pursue the story at great personal risk, putting their own lives on the line in their quest to uncover the truth.
What do you all think of the trailer?
I’m surprised this is going straight to Hulu. Still, considering how much it feels like the type of story modern audiences are more accustomed to seeing as a miniseries on streaming, I can understand the decision. With that said, I think this looks pretty good. It’s giving me David Fincher vibes with its cool-toned cinematography, crisp compositions, and the procedural story of tracking down a serial killer. Matt Ruskin did a great job directing the 2017 indie film “Crown Heights,” and who can ever say no to a film starring Keira Knightley and Carrie Coon? Throw reliable supporting actors Chris Cooper and Alessandro Nivola, and you have some solid talent with an intriguing story that can entertain us (and maybe terrify us?) in the middle of March.
