The Next Best Picture Podcast – Interview With “A Child Of My Own” Filmmaker Maite Alberdi

A Child of My Own” is a 2026 Mexican hybrid documentary film directed by two-time Academy Award nominee Maite Alberdi (“The Mole Agent” and “The Eternal Memory“) and written by Julián Loyola and Esteban Student. It follows Alejandra, a newly married woman who wants to become a mother and, under pressure, fakes a pregnancy. It had its world premiere at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival in the Berlinale Special section, where it received positive reviews. Alberdi was kind enough to spend some time talking with us about her work and experience making the film, which you can watch or listen to below. Please be sure to check out the film, which is now available to stream on Netflix. Thank you, and enjoy!
