The awards season calendar is taking shape. The 84th Annual Golden Globes will take place on Sunday, January 10th, 2027, airing live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. Nikki Glaser returns as host for a third consecutive year. “I’m thrilled to host the Golden Globes for a third time,” Glaser said, “not only because it’s the greatest gig I’ve ever had, but because my sister has three kids and now we will be equal in the eyes of my parents and the Lord.” Never change, Nikki. Never change.
A week after the Oscars rolled out their own stringent AI regulations, the Globes have followed suit with updated guidelines of their own. The new rules stop short of an outright ban, stating that AI use “does not automatically disqualify a work from consideration, provided that human creative direction, artistic judgment, and authorship remain primary throughout the production process.” For acting categories specifically, performances “substantially generated or created by artificial intelligence” are not eligible, and any unauthorized use of a performer’s digital likeness or voice replication is explicitly off the table. Crucially, all submissions must now include a disclosure stating whether any generative AI was used at any point in the production of the completed work. The Globes’ eligibility committee reserves the right to request additional materials and may rule a submission ineligible if that information isn’t provided promptly.
On the podcast front, the category that debuted at this year’s ceremony — where “Good Hang With Amy Poehler” took home the inaugural award — is expanding slightly, with eligible podcasts now drawn from a curated top 30 list rather than last year’s top 25, as determined by Luminate. There’s also a notable tweak for non-English-language and independent films: they may now be submitted for individual acting categories without needing to be entered in the Best Motion Picture category.
As for the full timeline, submissions open June 1st and close October 30th. Nominations will be announced on December 7th, with final ballots going out on December 18th and due back January 2nd, 2027 — just over a week before the ceremony itself. The full timeline can be seen below:
