34 Peabody winners have been announced this year, including “Heated Rivalry” (despite not being eligible for this year’s Emmys), joining other distinguished titles like last year’s Emmy winners “The Pitt” and “Adolescence.”
The annual awards span a wide range of categories, including entertainment, documentary, news, podcast/radio, arts, children’s and youth programming, immersive media, and public service storytelling.
According to Peabody, the winners were selected from a pool of more than 1,000 submissions, with the final honorees determined by a unanimous vote of a panel of 28 jurors. HBO Max led all platforms with six Peabody wins, followed by Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV, PBS, and Al Jazeera English with two each. Hulu also secured two awards — one via Onyx Collective and another through FX.
“The winners of the 86th annual Peabody Awards reflect Peabody’s mission to honor storytelling that has the potential to change culture, whether it’s examining the destructive tactics of ICE, viewing terminal illness through a deeply personal lens, or resisting attempts to stifle free speech,” said Jeffrey Jones, executive director of Peabody. “We look forward to recognizing and celebrating these winners.”
This year’s winners will be celebrated on May 31st at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, with Liz Kelly and ROK Productions producing the ceremony. Peabody noted that the event will adopt a refreshed format, moving away from a traditional awards show toward a more cohesive, thematic presentation that highlights connections among the honorees.
In addition to the competitive awards, Amy Poehler will receive the Peabody Career Achievement Award, Sterlin Harjo will be honored with the Trailblazer Award, James L. Brooks will be recognized as Industry Icon, and PBS Kids will receive the Institutional Award.
