David Corenswet & Rachel Brosnahan Get Cast In James Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy” As Superman & Lois Lane

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. and DC Studios have announced David Corenswet has been cast as Superman, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane in the upcoming James Gunn superhero film “Superman: Legacy.” Gunn will direct and write “Superman: Legacy” as he and Peter Safran are co-chairs of DC Studios. Gunn’s take on the iconic hero will be the first film to jump-start DC’s new cinematic universe. “Superman: Legacy” will be released in theaters on July 11th, 2025.

The casting process for this film has been heavily followed these past few months. Screen tests for the roles recently occurred, including the actors in full costume. Corenswet and Brosnahan were two out of six actors considered for the iconic roles. Some other actors considered for the role of Superman included Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney. The other actresses in the mix for Lois Lane included Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor. No plot information about the film is known other than Gunn is heavily inspired by Grant Morrison’s “All-Star Superman” comic run.

It’s been a very long time since audiences have had a quality standalone Superman film. Corenswet is a perfect casting choice for the iconic superhero. He has the demeanor and, of course, the look. He has done some solid work in the past few years in projects such as “Hollywood,” “Pearl,” and “We Own This City.” It’s time he had the opportunity to step into the big league with a role of this scale. Brosnahan (fresh off the final season of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) is also terrific casting. They both seem very compatible, and Gunn must also be sure of that. It’s somewhat intriguing also seeing Gunn get behind this project compared to the usual band of misfit-esque heroes he has been associated with lately.

Any concerns over Gunn helming this project should be squashed since he delivered one of the better superhero films as of late with “Guardians of The Galaxy: Vol. 3.” It’ll be interesting to see if he can finally deliver on what Superman fans feel they have been waiting on for a long time. His last film with Warner Bros. DC was “The Suicide Squad,” which went on to receive positive reviews. With Corenswet and Brosnahan as the leads, it’s looking like this highly anticipated project is in good hands.
