A24 has released the official trailer for Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla” starring Cailee Spaeny, Jacob Elordi & Dagmara Domińczyk. The film will be released in theaters later this year.
Plot Synopsis: When teenage Priscilla Beaulieu meets Elvis Presley at a party, the man who is already a meteoric rock-and-roll superstar becomes someone entirely unexpected in private moments: a thrilling crush, an ally in loneliness, a gentle best friend. Through Priscilla’s eyes, Sofia Coppola tells the unseen side of a great American myth in Elvis and Priscilla’s long courtship and turbulent marriage, from a German army base to his dream-world estate at Graceland, in this deeply felt and ravishingly detailed portrait of love, fantasy, and fame.
What do you all think of the trailer? While there isn’t much to go off of from this teaser, there are some takeaways. One is this looks like a more grounded and subdued look at Elvis and Priscilla versus what we got last year with Baz Luhrmann’s bombastic Oscar-nominated biopic “Elvis.” Centering this on Priscilla is a genius move by Coppola and should play directly into her wheelhouse of giving us a female perspective for a story we’re all very familiar with. Shot compositions by cinematographer Philippe Le Sourd look gorgeous even if they’re muted compared to Mandy Walker’s more colorful work from last year. Overall, this looks like it’ll be a nice companion piece and a welcome contrast to last year’s look at these iconic historical figures. Plus, any time Sofia Coppola has a new film out, it’s worth highlighting and celebrating. Will it premiere at Venice or Telluride?
