A24 has released the trailer for Mark Anthony Green’s “Opus” starring Ayo Edebiri, John Malkovich, Rosario Dawson, Juliette Lewis, Murray Bartlett, Amber Midthunder, Young Mazino, Stephanie Suganami & Tony Hale. The film will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival before being released in theaters on March 14th, 2025.
Plot Synopsis: A young writer (Ayo Edebiri) is invited to the remote compound of a legendary pop star (John Malkovich) who mysteriously disappeared thirty years ago. Surrounded by the star’s cult of sycophants and intoxicated journalists, she finds herself in the middle of his twisted plan.
What do you all think of the trailer? I love me an A24 horror-thriller with elements of dark, quirky comedy thrown in for good measure (perhaps also with a twist the trailer is hinting at but cleverly hiding?), and “Opus” looks to fit that mold perfectly with sharp commentary on celebrity worship. John Malkovich and Murray Bartlett, in particular, look like they’re having a blast here, and I’m just so pleased to see Ayo Edebiri leading another film following her success on “The Bear.” I’m hoping to attend the world premiere at Sundance, where I’m sure it will tear the house down at the Eccles. What do you all think?
