Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” Will Open The 2024 Venice Film Festival

We have our first official film announced for the 2024 Venice International Film Festival, and it’s Tim Burton’s long-anticipated sequel to the 1988 Oscar-winning “Beetlejuice,” with “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.” The film will premiere on the Lido out of competition on August 28th and stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Arthur Conti, Jenna Ortega & Willem Dafoe.

The film reunites Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara with Burton while Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Jenna Ortega, and Willem Dafoe play new characters. The Warner Bros. title will be released theatrically in North America on September 6th and internationally starting September 4th.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice marks the long-awaited return of one of the most iconic characters of Tim Burton’s cinema, but also the happy confirmation of the extraordinary visionary talent and the masterly realization of one of the most fascinating auteurs of his time,” said Venice artistic director Alberto Barbera, noting the festival was “honored and proud to host the world premiere of a work that features a surprising swing of creative imagination and driving hallucinatory rhythm.”

Burton stated, “I’m very excited by this. It means a lot to me to have the world premiere of this film at the Venice Film Festival.”

Other films predicted to make their world premieres at this year’s festival include “Joker Folie a Deux,” “Hard Truths,“Maria,“Queer and more. This year’s Venice Film Festival will run from August 28th until September 7th.
