“Hard Truths” had its world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, where it received enthusiastic reviews for Mike Leigh’s direction, writing, and performances from Marianne Jean-Baptiste (who has won Best Actress prizes this awards season from the NYFCC, LAFCA, and NSFC becoming the first Black woman to win all three) and Michele Austin.
