Marvel is officially ramping up their production on their iteration of the “X-Men.” According to Deadline, Samara Weaving has officially joined the cast of Jake Schreier’s “X-Men,” playing the one and only Emma Frost. Weaving marks the first official casting announcement for the film, as Kevin Feige and the folks at Marvel Studios have remained tight-lipped about the project, even avoiding any reveals at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Much of the film is shrouded in secrecy, aside from the fact that Schreier, fresh off the success of “Thunderbolts*” and the second season of “Beef,” is directing, while Joanna Calo, best known for her work on “The Bear,” is writing the script.
There has been much speculation on when the full lineup of this generation of the X-Men will be announced, with Disney’s annual D23 event coming in only a few weeks; we may be seeing more and more leading up to the Marvel Studios Panel. Maybe ending their time at San Diego Comic Con with the special moment of David Jonsson taking over the mantle of Black Panther was enough to buy some time from clamoring fans till their next event in August.

So who is even rumored to be cast in this project? Besides Weaving, the only other official member of the X-Men cast in the MCU is Sadie Sink, who made her debut as Jean Grey in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” The character at the end of the film is seen riding into the sunset in what looks like a nice path upstate New York, where she’ll most likely end up at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. Word is going around that Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny are both attached to the project, which makes sense considering they both recently worked alongside Schreier on “Beef.” Melton would supposedly play Hank McCoy, aka The Beast, while Spaeny would play Anna LaBeau, most commonly known as Rogue. Recently, “Obsession” breakout star Inde Navarrette spoke to Variety about meeting with Schreier and expressing interest in playing the seductive shapeshifter Mystique.
Scott Summers (Cyclops) has had a slew of names floated around online, ranging from Cooper Hoffman to Drew Starkey. It’s even harder to pin down who will play major characters like Charles Xavier (Professor X) and Erik Lehnsherr (Magneto). These two pivotal characters will help shape this mainly younger ensemble the MCU is looking to mold into the next phase of heroes for this franchise for years to come. Either way, the soonest you will see the X-Men on screen in live action is the Fox iteration of the characters that will appear in “Avengers: Doomsday” later this year. As of now, “X-Men” is expected to hit theaters in 2028.
