Warner Bros. has released the trailer for The Sopranos prequel “The Many Saints Of Newark,” starring Alessandro Nivola, Leslie Odom Jr., Jon Bernthal, Corey Stoll, Michael Gandolfini, Billy Magnussen, Michela De Rossi, John Magaro, Ray Liotta & Vera Farmiga. The film will be released in theaters and streaming on HBO Max on October 1st, 2021.

Plot Synopsis: Young Anthony Soprano is growing up in one of the most tumultuous eras in Newark’s history, becoming a man just as rival gangsters begin to rise up and challenge the all-powerful DiMeo crime family’s hold over the increasingly race-torn city. Caught up in the changing times is the uncle he idolizes, Dickie Moltisanti, who struggles to manage both his professional and personal responsibilities—and whose influence over his nephew will help make the impressionable teenager into the all-powerful mob boss we’ll later come to know: Tony Soprano.
What do you all think of the trailer? As a big “Sopranos” fan, how could I not be excited about this? I am curious to see how those who have never seen the hit HBO show (And I mean, really, who hasn’t?!) will be able to follow along with this story. That all rests on director Alan Taylor, whose directorial credits have not impressed me yet, but I’m open due to the source material. The cast all look terrific, with Alessandro Nivola and Michael Gandolfini (the dearly departed James Gandolfini’s son) as standouts. I love a good tough guy crime film. The question is whether or not this will be a commercial play for fans of the original television show or if it can break out into something more. What do you think, though?
