Jane Fonda Will Receive The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Life Achievement Award

Earlier today, the SAG Awards and SAG-AFTRA revealed that Jane Fonda will be honored with this year’s Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Life Achievement Award. The two-time Academy Award-winning actress and activist will receive SAG-AFTRA’s highest honor at the 31st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, set to take place on February 23rd, 2025, in Los Angeles, California.

SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher lauded Fonda as a “trailblazer and an extraordinary talent,” adding, “We honor Jane not only for her artistic brilliance but for the profound legacy of activism and empowerment she has created. Her fearless honesty has been an inspiration to me and many others in our industry.”

Expressing her appreciation, Fonda said, “I am deeply honored and humbled to be this year’s recipient of the SAG Life Achievement Award. I have been working in this industry for almost the entirety of my life, and there’s no honor like the one bestowed on you by your peers. SAG-AFTRA works tirelessly to protect the working actor and to ensure that union members are being treated equitably in all areas, and I am proud to be a member as we continue to work to protect generations of performers to come.”

Fonda, turning 87 this year, will be the 60th recipient of this lifetime achievement award. Over her extensive career, she has earned numerous accolades, including two Oscars (with four additional nominations), two BAFTAs, an Emmy (plus four other nominations), seven Golden Globes, a Grammy nomination, four SAG nominations, and several critics’ and festival awards. Her remarkable body of work includes films such as “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?,” “Klute” (for which she won her first Oscar), “Barbarella,” “Coming Home” (her second Oscar win), “The China Syndrome,” “9 to 5,” “On Golden Pond,” “Agnes of God,” “Stanley & Iris,” and “Monster-in-Law.” On television, her standout performances include “The Dollmaker” (which won her an Emmy), “A Century of Women,” “The Newsroom,” and “Grace and Frankie.”

Beyond her artistic accomplishments, Fonda is widely respected for her activism, which began in the 1960s during the antiwar movement. Throughout the years, she has advocated for Indigenous rights, gender equality, civil rights, and environmental justice, often participating in protests, and even being arrested for her commitment to these causes.

The SAG Awards will be streamed live on Netflix on Sunday, February 23rd, 2025, at 8pm ET.
