Yesterday morning, Thierry Frémaux confirmed with Radio France that the official selection for the 2025 Cannes Film Festival will be announced on April 10th. Since then, I’ve been putting my thinking cap on as to which films I feel might have their world premieres at the prestigious film festival and have come up with my first stab at the Competition lineup, along with several other titles I feel might play in Un Certain Regard or Out of Competition if rumors of their debut on the Croisette are to be believed. All eyes are on this year’s festival now that COVID and the Hollywood strikes are behind us to see how much the festival will embrace American filmmakers. Not to mention, the festival has become a massive launching pad for awards season contenders, more than ever before, ever since the Academy’s membership expanded to become more international. I will likely refine this list one more time before the official announcement on April 10th, but for now, based on their history with the festival, here’s where I am with the following filmmakers and their films…

The 78th Cannes Film Festival is set to take place from May 13th to 24th. Juliette Binoche has already been announced as the president of the competition section of this year’s jury. Dan Bayer and I will be attending in-person for this year’s film festival.
