By Matt Neglia So that just happened….
In what will go down in history as probably the most shocking Oscar moment EVER, “La La Land” was announced as the Best Picture winner by a confused Warren Beatty who was looking off to the sides and stalling for time as he had the wrong envelope in his hands (It was Emma Stone’s envelope for Best Actress), after winning 6 awards and being the presumed winner for the season, Beatty made the decision to announce “La La Land” as the winner and the team took the stage to accept their award. After a few moments and some sweet (Now awkward) winning speeches, the true winner was revealed to be “Moonlight.” The cast and crew of that film took the stage while the “La La Land” crew awkwardly exited, as the audience and the people watching at home tried to get a handle on what had just occurred.
There will be so much to discuss on this historic moment and although I’m very happy for “Moonlight,” I fear this win will forever be considered a fluke. I cannot wait to discuss this on the podcast this week and for all of you to listen.
Thank you so much for following me live on twitter tonight and be sure to stay tuned in the post Oscar season over here at Next Best Picture for more to come on what these wins all mean historically and more moving forward.
