A24 has released the trailer for Celine Song’s “Materialists” starring Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans & Pedro Pascal. The film will be released in theaters on June 13th, 2025.

What do you all think of the trailer? Following the Oscar-nominated success of “Past Lives,” anticipation has been high for how Celine Song would follow up her acclaimed debut film. When casting was announced, some raised an eyebrow over how she went for three very big stars, and then even more eyebrows were raised yesterday when the poster was unveiled. Now that the trailer has been released, it appears we have a much clearer idea of what Song is going for here.Much like “We Live In Time,” this feels like the kind of rom-com A24 hopes to have some commercial prospects, and the trailer is marketed as such with that same tinge of longing Song so expertly displayed in “Past Lives.” Some may be quick to say Song has gone too commercial with her follow up, but I’m in “let’s wait and see” mode as there are some moments in this trailer that point more toward the sensibilities she showed in her debut rather than selling out and going full Hollywood with her latest. In fact, I have a feeling this film may sneak up on people much like John Crowley’s film did despite its star-led cast and win our hearts over (while simultaneously breaking them).
